Australians now enjoy new and renovated homes that are:

New buildings need to meet mandatory minimum energy efficiency performance levels. These standards are set out in the National Construction Code (previously the Building Code of Australia).  Extensions, Renovations and Relocations are still required to meet the NCC requirements. The Building Surveyor has discretion to allow partial compliance for extensions or extensive alterations where the NCC requirement is impractical. 

The energy performance of a new building must be demonstrated when applying for building approval. The Building Surveyor will require proof (Certification) that a building will meet the mandatory minimum energy efficiency standards as part of determining whether to grant a Building Permit.
